As a Mechatronics Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on developing and processing polymer-based thin film devices, integrating cutting-edge materials into the stack to enhance the device's performance. You will leverage innovative and well-established semiconductor fabrication techniques to incorporate these materials, placing you at the forefront of next-generation technology development.

You will be at the forefront of bringing advanced healthcare solutions to market, making a tangible difference in people´s lives worldwide.

This position will be office-based in Bellaterra. 

Your profile

Main responsibilities:
  • Design high-precision manufacturing tooling and fixtures for processes such as laser cutting, ensuring cleanroom compatibility and repeatability.
  • Design, build, and deploy custom mechatronic and fluidic equipment for reliability testing of thin-film neural devices, including temperature-controlled and liquid circulation systems.
  • Develop and maintain automated wafer handling and transfer equipment, supporting scaling from 150 mm to 200 mm wafer processing.
  • Manage external suppliers and machine shops, including the creation of detailed drawings, GD&T specifications and technical documentation.
  • Lead equipment qualification activities including IQ and OQ, ensuring safe and compliant handover to production.
  • Support microfabrication operations and semiconductor to flexible substrate integration.
  • Own equipment documentation including BOMs, drawings, maintenance plans and validation records in compliance with ISO 13485.
  • Perform hands-on prototyping, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Collaborate with electronics and test teams to integrate sensors, data acquisition systems, grounding, and signal integrity into mechanical designs.

Mandatory Qualifications and Soft skills:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related engineering field.
  • Minimum years of experience in industrial equipment development, preferably in MedTech, semiconductor, or microfluidics environments.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360, including complex assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
  • Practical experience with precision motion systems including motors, actuators, and alignment mechanisms.
  • Hands on experience working in laboratory or cleanroom environments.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 13485 or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Strong ownership mindset with ability to take equipment from concept through validation.
  • Structured problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work across disciplines including process, electronics, and quality teams.
  • Comfortable working hands on in fast paced, evolving environments.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with internal teams and external suppliers.

Nice to have:
  • Experience designing equipment for semiconductor wafer processing or thin film manufacturing.
  • Experience with fluidic systems involving pumps, valves, seals and leak tight assemblies.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, microcontrollers, LabView or Python based hardware control.
  • Experience with equipment qualification in medical device manufacturing.
  • Experience in microfabrication process engineering and semiconductor transfer to flexible substrates.
  • Knowledge of material compatibility with solvents such as acetone, IPA, and NMP.
