As a Micro-Assembly & Integration Team Lead, you will be responsible for leading the development, industrialization, and scaling of wafer-to-device integration, micro-assembly, and encapsulation processes for advanced implantable biomedical devices.

You will be at the forefront of bringing advanced healthcare solutions to market, making a tangible difference in people´s lives worldwide.


This position will be office-based in Bellaterra/Barcelona.
Your profile

Main responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the roadmap for micro-assembly and integration processes, ensuring scalability, compliance, and manufacturability for chronic and semi-chronic implantable devices.
  • Process and Equipment Ownership: Specify, procure, and qualify equipment (bonding, laser micromachining, encapsulation, forming) through CAPEX planning and IQ/OQ/PQ validation.
  • Development-to-Production Transfer: Lead structured technology-transfer processes, ensuring design intent, process control, and documentation are ready for release into production.  MRL, TRL.
  • Integration Process Development: Oversee development of wafer singulation, bonding, and encapsulation flows, molding, and supporting sterilization and packaging processes with the aim of establishing validated process windows and yield tracking metrics. 
  • Reliability and Qualification: Coordinate film and integration reliability testing, sample builds, and process qualification to ensure long-term device integrity.
  • Data and Digital Systems Integration: Ensure full traceability and process control through MES integration, digital travelers, and PLM documentation management.
  • Planning and Forecasting: Translating program’s needs into mfg. and development forecast to provide deliverables on time and at cost.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with Microfabrication, NPI, QA, and Operations to align integration strategies with design requirements and regulatory expectations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Use data analytics to identify yield, reliability, and process-control opportunities, applying structured problem-solving and Lean methodologies.
  • Team Leadership: Manage engineers and operators within the integration and assembly group, setting objectives, development plans, and performance metrics.
  • Compliance and Audit Readiness: Maintain adherence to ISO 13485, MDR, and internal quality systems across all integration and test processes.

Mandatory Qualifications and Soft skills:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related technical field, or extensive leadership experience demonstrated.
  • >7 years of experience in semiconductor, MEMS, or medical-device process development, with at least 3 years in leadership or team-management roles.
  • Track record in Device integration and assembly, bonding, encapsulation, and laser-based processing.
  • Demonstrated experience managing CAPEX projects and equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Strong understanding of development-to-production transfer methodologies and process documentation.
  • Experience with MES and PLM systems and planning systems for manufacturing data management and traceability.
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485, GMP, and MDR quality-system requirements.
  • Fluency in English (company language).
  • Able to define process roadmaps and translate technical data into strategic decisions.
  • Strong ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and drive accountability.
  • Works effectively across R&D, Operations, and Quality functions.
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness in documentation, validation, and traceability.
  • Leverages data and visualization tools to make informed decisions and prioritize improvements.
  • Proactively identifies and implements efficiency and reliability enhancements.
  • Comfortable operating in a dynamic environment balancing development speed and regulatory rigor.

Nice to have:

  • Hands-on experience with thin-film or flexible-substrate devices.
  • Experience leading cross-site or external manufacturing partners (CMOs).
  • Familiarity with medical-device molding, sterilization, hermetic packaging, or biocompatible encapsulation.
  • Working knowledge of Python or similar tools for data visualization, process monitoring, and yield analysis.
  • Experience implementing SPC, FMEA, or DOE methodologies for process optimization.
  • Previous exposure to Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma initiatives.
